Yesterday in the work of the Skype messenger there was a global failure. About half of users (48%) reported being unable to receive messages, 44% were unable to log in, and another 7% were unable to make calls. According to the Downdetector resource, the problems started yesterday at 17:00 Moscow time.
It is noted that interruptions in the work of the messenger did not affect Russia, but were recorded in the United States, South America, Europe, Brazil and some other countries. At the same time, users on Downdetector report that there are still problems today, although there have been no reports of large-scale failures.
So far, Microsoft has not reported what caused the outage in the service. At the same time, it is possible that the problems could be related to regular updates or changes in the software part. At the moment, the functioning of the service is fully restored.
Recall that earlier problems appeared for users of Firefox and Safari, who could not launch the web version of Skype. At the same time, the problem manifested itself all over the world, but it concerned these particular browsers. Chromium-based solutions, as well as Microsoft Edge, functioned normally. The company from Redmond emphasized that long before that they warned users about this.
The cause of the problems was called support for the function of calls and real-time multimedia. At the same time, it is implemented differently in different browsers, so the company decided to focus only on Chrome and Edge.
