Bethesda Softworks VP Explains Why DOOM Eternal Doesn't Have a Deathmatch Mode

DOOM Eternal will be the first game in the series that will not feature the classic multiplayer Deathmatch mode. In a recent interview, Bethesda Softworks Vice President of Marketing and Communications Pete Hines explained why they decided not to add him. According to the director, Deathmatch is not suitable for the series, and the developers do not want to implement the mode for the sake of maintaining traditions.

Whether you're having fun on your own or with friends, we want everyone to have the same gaming experience. It shouldn't be like, "I'm a demon slayer in the single-player campaign, but in multiplayer I'm doing standard deathmatch without demons." I'm not sure how this applies to [DOOM], unless we have to add a mode since it was present in the series decades ago."
