Game director Hideo Kojima and senior artist Yoji Shinkawa took the audience behind the scenes of a scene first shown in the The Game Awards 2017.

Kojima and Shinkawa explained some Death Stranding concepts that are relevant in the context of the video (like time rain), and also shared stories from the beginning of development.

To depict the in-game crabs, Kojima Productions had to scan the real one, because the model created from scratch turned out to be not natural enough. The arthropod did not survive the procedure, and was buried with honors.

Kojima also admitted that the idea of rain, which speeds up the passage of time for living organisms, came to him from the 1975 Mexican horror film Hell Rain, where the rain literally corroded the faces of the characters.

According to the game designer, otherworldly Creatures, according to the idea, were not supposed to leave traces in the real world. Without prints, the creatures did not make the proper impression, so they decided to add the effect.

Kojima paid special attention to the seamlessness of the transition from intro cutscenes to gameplay: "It gives the user the feeling that he has everything under control."

A large number of close-ups of faces in the game is explained by the director's desire to show close Hollywood actors involved in Death Stranding: β€œI didn't want the camera to be too far away. I think a lot of people wanted to see big plans."

At the end of the trailer, the hero sees a giant, instead of hands, which has wires diverging in different directions. The threads ended up in this position due to a bug (initially they were supposed to come from the shoulders), but the developers liked the image and left it.

After four years of production by the efforts of the revived Kojima Productions, the game finally made it to release. Death Stranding was released on November 8, 2019 on PS4 and will be coming to PC in Summer 2020.
