Quixel Studios Artistic Director Wiktor Ohman shared impressive footage of a scene from Silent Hill 4 recreated in Unreal Engine 2. Interestingly, the author used real-time ray tracing to further bring the gloomy toilet to life. This project showcases what a next-gen remake of Silent Hill 2 could look like.
Viktor Okhman used the digital resources of the Quixel Megascans library, which is quite evident from the excellent textures and models that accompany this reconstruction. In addition, the artist used ray tracing not only to more accurately calculate the lighting, but also to create realistic reflections.
Unfortunately, Konami has no plans to relaunch the iconic horror movie Silent Hill 2, so don't expect to see a remake like this in the foreseeable future. However, it's really interesting to see how artists recreate elements of classic interactive entertainment on modern engines.
In addition to the above screenshots, the author also released a video showing in detail the process of creating a scene on the Unreal Engine 4 engine. Those who wish can also see the one shown at GDC 2019
