Video: Red Dead Redemption 2 with ray tracing via ReShade

Red Dead Redemption 2 on PC looks amazing without any extras, and while the game doesn't officially support NVIDIA RTX real-time ray tracing effects, Pascal Gilcher's RayTraced Global Illumination Shader for Reshade will let you enjoy some ray tracing effects. As some of you may already know, the ReShade shader uses Path Tracing to provide real-time global illumination effects in various games.

β€œI guess it's nothing new that ReShade works in almost every game, but constant efforts on the part of the developer have made it available for Vulkan and DirectX 12, the two modes of RDR 2,” Mr. Pascal wrote on his Patreon page. - I tested version 4.4.1 from the official site, and hooray - everything works! Now the ray tracing shader also works, as you can see above. Rockstar Games may have decided to remove ray tracing from their game, but we can add it ourselves without any problems =).”

Those who wish can see the results in a new video showing Red Dead Redemption 2 on a PC with ray tracing effects on Ultra Max settings:

Red Dead Redemption 2 is very demanding on the graphics accelerator, and using Pascal Gilcher's ReShader creates an additional load. This video uses a 7GHz AMD Ryzen 1800 4,2X processor paired with 32GB of Corsair Vengeance RAM and an 1080GB MSI Armor GTX 11 Ti graphics accelerator.

In general, this mode is clearly not for everyone, but it's still nice to see how a shader can improve the visuals of a game on PC. Red Dead Redemption 2 is available on PC, PlayStation 4 and Xbox One.
