This is why the next Windows 10 release will be 2004

Traditionally, the β€œten” uses version numbers, which are direct indicators of release dates. And although they often differ from the actual ones, this allows us to more or less accurately determine when this or that version will be released.

For example, build 1809 was planned for September 2018, but was released in October. Windows 10 (1903) - March and May 2019, respectively. The same is true for Windows 10 (1909) - September and November.

This is why the next Windows 10 release will be 2004

At the moment, the company is β€œpolishing” the next Windows 10 update (20H1), which will be released in March, but will reach users in April or May next year. However, this version will be called 2004. Why is that? Everything is simple and complex at the same time.

Redmond doesn’t want users to confuse Windows 10 version 2003 and Windows Server 2003. Although how can they be confused if the first is a desktop OS and the second is a server OS? However, the company believes that launching Windows 10 20H1 with the name 2003 could lead to even greater confusion when talking about Windows Server 2003.

However, Microsoft has not yet announced the official name of the first major Windows 10 update, which should appear in 2020. So things could still change.
