Chrome OS Release 77

Google company presented operating system release Chrome OS 77based on the Linux kernel, the upstart system manager, the ebuild/portage build tool, open components, and a web browser Chrome 77. The Chrome OS user environment is limited to a web browser, and instead of standard programs, web applications are involved, however, Chrome OS includes includes a full-fledged multi-window interface, desktop and taskbar.
Chrome OS 77 build available for most current models Chromebook. Enthusiasts formed unofficial builds for regular computers with x86, x86_64 and ARM processors. The original texts extend under the free Apache 2.0 license.

All changes in Chrome OS 77:

  • Added a new indicator of sound playback by the application or in browser tabs, which allows you to access the sound control widget by clicking in the lower right corner of the screen;
  • In the "Family Link" parental control mode, which allows you to limit the time children use the device, it became possible to give bonus minutes for success and achievements, without changing the general daily limits;
  • The "Automatic Clicks" feature for people with movement disorders has been expanded with the ability to scroll the screen, in addition to the previously available options for automatic click when the mouse is long on the link, right click, double click and dragging the element while the button is pressed;
  • Added support for the Google Assistant voice assistant, to call which you can say "Hey Google" or click on the assistant logo in the taskbar. Google Assistant lets you ask questions, set reminders, play music, control smart devices, and more in natural language;
  • Strengthened certificate validation, which can lead to the termination of trust in some incorrect certificates that were previously accepted by the old NSS (Network Security Services);
  • For builds based on the Linux 4.4+ kernel, added the ability to automatically shut down after three days of inactivity in standby mode;
  • In the ARC ++ environment (App Runtime for Chrome, a layer for running Android applications in Chrome OS), it became possible to play copy-protected HD content available via HDMI 1.4 in Android applications;
  • The file selection interface has been unified - the same dialog is now called for Android applications as for Chrome OS;
  • When formatting an external drive, it is possible to select a file system (FAT32, exFAT, NTFS) and define a volume label.
