Firefox 73.0 release

On February 11, Firefox 73.0 was released to the public.

The Firefox Developers Want to Give Special Thanks 19 new contributors who first submitted their code for this release.

Added by:

  • the ability to set the default zoom level globally (in the settings in the “Language and Appearance” section), while the zoom level for each site separately is still preserved;
  • [windows] page background adjusts to system high contrast mode.

Fixed:

  • security fixes;
  • improved audio quality at fast/slow playback speed;
  • the prompt to save the login appears only if the value in the input field has been changed.

Other changes:

  • WebRender will be enabled on Windows laptops with an Nvidia graphics card (driver newer than 432.00 and screen size smaller than 1920x1200).

For developers:

  • WebSocket message content in WAMP format (JSON, MsgPack and CBOR) is now beautifully decoded for viewing in the "Network" tab in developer tools.

Web platform:

  • improved automatic detection of obsolete text encodings on old web pages where the encoding is not explicitly specified.

Not fixed:

  • [windows] 0patch software users may experience crashes when launching Firefox 73. This will be fixed in the next release. To work around the issue, firefox.exe can be added to exceptions in the 0patch settings.
