The fheroes2 1.0.9 project is now available, which recreates the Heroes of Might and Magic II game engine from scratch. The project code is written in C++ and distributed under the GPLv2 license. To run the game, files with game resources are required, which can be obtained from the original game Heroes of Might and Magic II.
Major changes:
- Expanded “hot keys” window.

- A full settings window is now available on the map during gameplay.

- The AI is trained to use Shield spells to protect against missile attacks.
- Improved pathfinding algorithms for AI on the adventure map and battlefield.
- AI takes into account the effects applied to creatures when constructing tactics in battle.

- Simplification of AI algorithms for "easy" and "normal" modes.
- For Android devices, action confirmation has been implemented during combat to eliminate false clicks.
- Interaction with the object on which the hero is standing, in addition to the “space” key, is now possible by clicking on the “movement of the hero” button in the status window.
- Pressing the “hero movement” button in the status window allows you to reset the route.

- The ability to place roads, rivers, creatures and heroes has been added to the map editor (not yet available to users).

- Closed over 40 notifications of errors and suggestions for improving the project.
