Scribus 1.5.5 free publishing package release

Prepared release of a free package for document layout Scribus 1.5.5, which provides tools for professional layout of printed materials, including flexible PDF generation tools and support for working with separate color profiles, CMYK, spot colors and ICC. The system is written using the Qt toolkit and is licensed under the GPLv2+ license. Ready-made binary assemblies prepared by for Linux (AppImage), macOS and Windows.

Branch 1.5 is positioned as experimental and includes features such as a new user interface based on Qt5, a changed file format, full support for tables and advanced text processing tools. Release 1.5.5 is noted as being well tested and already quite stable for working on new documents. After final stabilization and recognition of readiness for widespread implementation, a stable release of Scribus 1.5 will be formed based on branch 1.6.0.

All improvements in Scribus 1.5.5:

  • A lot of work has been done to refactor the code base to simplify project maintenance, improve code readability and increase productivity. Along the way, we managed to eliminate many errors, of which problems stand out in the new text engine and associated complex font handlers;
  • The user interface has the ability to use a dark color scheme;
  • Added a function search interface similar to what is provided in GIMP, G'MIC and Photoshop. In the dialog with search results, whenever possible, links to menu items are also displayed through which you can call the found functions;
  • In the Document Setup / Preferences settings, a separate tab has been added for fonts that are installed on the system, but cannot be used in Scribus;
  • For entries in the font selection form, tooltips have been implemented that allow you to quickly determine the font name;
  • Π’ scripter new commands have been added to automate the execution of various works using external scripts in Python;
  • Updated import and export filters;
  • Changes have been made to improve compatibility with the latest Windows 10 and macOS updates;
  • Some areas of the user interface have been polished.
