The process has begun relicensing SuperTuxKart code base for a dual license GPLv3 + MPLv2, in connection with which requests were sent to the participants who participated in the development to obtain consent to change the license. Using MPLv2 in addition to GPLv3 will solve problems with placing the game in the Steam and Apple App store directories, pre-installing on game consoles, and using open libraries that are incompatible with the GPL (for example, openssl). The dual license is also noted as a better option in light of the upcoming plans to separate the game engine from the main game.
