Today, September 12, 2019, after almost 6 months of development, the latest version of the user desktop environment - GNOME 3.34 - was released. It added about 26 thousand changes, such as:
- “Visual” updates for a number of applications, including the “desktop” itself - for example, the settings for choosing a desktop background have become simpler, which makes it easier to change the standard wallpaper to something less boring. (Picture)
- Added "custom folders" to the menu. Now, just like on a mobile phone, you can drag the icon of one application onto another, and they will be combined into a “folder”. When you delete the last icon from a “folder,” the folder will also be deleted. (Picture)
- The built-in Epiphany browser now has sandboxing enabled by default for processes that process web page content. They are not allowed access to anything other than the directories necessary for the browser to work.
- The GNOME Music player has been rewritten (more players are needed!), now it can update the music collection directories specified to it, playback without pauses between tracks has been implemented, and the design of the library pages has been updated. (Picture)
- The Mutter window manager has learned to launch XWayland on demand, rather than keeping it constantly loaded.
- Added built-in DBus inspection mode to IDE Builder.
