Yandex presented the first prizes named after Ilya Segalovich

The first ceremony of awarding the Ilya Segalovich Science Prize, which was established by Yandex in January of this year, took place.

Recall that Ilya Segalovich is a co-founder and director of technologies at Yandex. It is he who is the creator of the first version of the search engine and co-author of the word "Yandex".

The annual Ilya Segalovich Prize is awarded for contributions to the development of computer science - namely, for research in the field of machine learning, computer vision, information retrieval and data analysis, natural language processing and machine translation, speech recognition and synthesis.

It is reported that the competition received 262 applications from Russia, Belarus and Kazakhstan. 13 people became laureates of the award: nine young researchers - students and postgraduates - and four scientific supervisors.

The Young Researchers nomination was won by Arip Asadulaev, a student at ITMO; Andrey Atanov, student at the National Research University Higher School of Economics and Skoltech; Pavel Goncharov, student of the Gomel Technical University; Eduard Gorbunov, MIPT postgraduate student; Alexandra Malysheva, student at the National Research University Higher School of Economics (St. Petersburg); Anastasia Popova, student at the Higher School of Economics (Nizhny Novgorod), and Skoltech PhD students Alexander Korotin, Marina Munkhoeva and Valentin Khrulkov. Among the works of the laureates are the classification of emotions in speech, the theoretical analysis of neural network models, the improvement of optimization methods, machine translation for rare languages, and the recognition of plant diseases from images.

Andrey Filchenkov, Associate Professor of ITMO, Candidate of Physical and Mathematical Sciences; Dmitry Ignatov, Associate Professor, National Research University Higher School of Economics, Candidate of Technical Sciences; Ivan Oseledets, Associate Professor at Skoltech, Doctor of Science in Physics and Mathematics; Vadim Strizhov, Chief Researcher at MIPT, Doctor of Physical and Mathematical Sciences. They were awarded for their contribution to the development of the scientific community and the training of young scientists.

The award will be paid during the next academic year: students and graduate students will receive 350 rubles each, scientific supervisors - 700 rubles each.
