Attackers are actively attacking computers storing biometric data

Kaspersky Lab reports that more than a third of computers and servers in the world used to store and process biometric data are at risk of becoming the target of online attackers.

We are talking about systems that are used to store information about fingerprints, iris, facial images, voice samples and hand geometry.

It is reported that during the third quarter of 2019, approximately 37% of computers used to store biometric data were at least once exposed to malware.

Malware penetrates the system through websites and email clients. In addition, malware is distributed on external drives, primarily on flash drives.

Distributed malware can steal confidential data, download and execute arbitrary software, and also give attackers the ability to remotely control an infected computer.

β€œAll this not only threatens the confidentiality of biometric data, but can also seriously affect its integrity, as well as the availability of authentication systems, and this is also a big risk,” say Kaspersky Lab experts.
