New level of deception: Tom Holland and Robert Downey Jr. starring Deepfake remake of Back to the Future

YouTuber EZRyderX47 posted videos created with Deepfake that give you an idea of what Back to the Future would look like if it was filmed today. In the original trilogy, the role of Marty McFly, a teenager who was lucky enough to travel through time, was played by Michael J. Fox, and his eccentric partner Doc Brown was played by Christopher Lloyd.

New level of deception: Tom Holland and Robert Downey Jr. starring Deepfake remake of Back to the Future

EZRyderX47 replaced Fox's face with Tom Holland's and Lloyd's with Downey Jr. And here is the most interesting thing: a person who has not seen "Back to the Future" (if there is one, of course), with a high degree of probability will not see a catch. The faces look quite natural, even with facial expressions, only the voices still belong to Fox and Lloyd.

The name DeepFake is formed by merging two expressions: "deep learning" (English Deep learning) and "fake" (English Fake), which quite accurately reveals the essence of the technology. It is based on generative adversarial neural networks (GANs), the principle of which is that one part of the algorithm is trained on real photos, competing with the second part until it starts to confuse a real image with a fake.

Last June, the US House Intelligence Committee held a hearing on the risks associated with Deepfake. The technology is primarily used for entertainment purposes, as in this case, but its capabilities are of concern as they can be used by attackers for revenge, the creation and distribution of fake news, and fraud.
