We do not get tired of moving forward, improving basic and introducing new services. Although, who are we kidding: we get tired, of course, but how else? We want to be not just a cloud provider, but an excellent provider that provides high quality cloud services at reasonable prices with a wide range of additional features for you, citizens. And we want to keep in touch with you through a comfortable, interesting blog. So this fatigue is pleasant, because we are achieving our goals, sort of.

In the outgoing year, we are again in the top twenty Russian IAAS service providers, only now not on as in 2018, but already on .
Launched in 2016, joint forums with Huawei dedicated to cloud technologies and the security of their use live and develop: this year we held a joint closed presentation of our products for corporate clients Cloudrussia-2019 in the format of an interactive tour in the Huawei Open Lab. .

What have started/done new
▍Radically changed the work of RUVDS technical support
Namely: we significantly reduced the time for processing and responding to incoming messages by increasing the staff of all support levels, introducing a fully customized ticket system, refusing to outsource the first line and accessing real 24/7 (technical support work is consistently fast, regardless of the time of day , holidays and weekends).
▍Fixed the ability to set up a firewall in your personal account
The RUVDS personal account offers a free firewall at the level of network equipment. Thus, unwanted network traffic will not enter the virtual machine, but will be filtered out at the data center level. For additional convenience of the client, the most frequently used filtering rules have been added to the firewall interface. In case of changing the IP address, the client can simply go to his personal account and edit the rule without having to go to the server.
▍Added VPS/VDS service with video card
The service is suitable for companies working with 3D / 2D graphics, animation, in particular, game development companies and will allow you to easily form a distributed team without incurring high costs. ▍Added pre-installed web consoles for managing websites and hosting
Now, when choosing a tariff for virtual servers on Linux OS, you can also choose a panel that allows you to work comfortably even for those who have entered the site administration kitchen for the first time. ▍We released a mobile application
Now our customers have the ability to manage their servers from mobile devices. The mobile client provides convenient operation even on a small smartphone screen. At the moment, the functionality of the application allows you to check the status of servers and manage their work; find out the balance of the personal account, view the history of deposits and debits; see statistics on the use of processor, storage and network resources; see the work of the wards machines: at what time problems arose with them and because of what they arose.

▍Introduced a marketplace
In December, we introduced a marketplace, a platform where you can find pre-configured applications and solutions to start working with the necessary programs on virtual servers in one click. First launched OTRS Community Edition, an open source ticket system based on the OTRS system.

▍We made a VPS with 1C:
The service is suitable, in general, for any company, but it will be especially beneficial for small businesses that prefer to save on infrastructure without losing the quality and comfort of the organization. 1C on VPS works with all commercial equipment in the same way as the boxed version, so the service will be a good choice for online stores, for wholesale companies selling goods on electronic orders, for individual entrepreneurs of various kinds of activity.
VPS+1C allows you to:
- Reduce maintenance costs - all support work is carried out by the provider's employees, on whose facilities the VPS is located, and not by the system administrators of your company or the specialists of the 1C partner who provides you with paid information and technical support services under the contract.

▍Opened 5 new containment areas to expand the choice of regions for storing your data
- Petersburg — one of the largest data centers in Russia with an area of 9000 sq. m, with a design capacity of 12 MW, with a valid M&O Stamp of Approval certificate and Tier III reliability level.
- in Kazan — the largest technopark in the field of high technologies of Tatarstan at the Tier III level, with an area per square kilometer, a capacity of 2,5 MW and the ability to accommodate more than 300 racks.
- in frankfurt — multi-tier (multi-tier) data center with an area of 67 sq.m and connection to the second largest Internet Exchange Point in Europe — , which provides premium services and is the world's leading interconnection platform, delivering peak traffic of over six terabits per second.
- in the Ural — A data center with an area of 160 sq.m, which has become the most important strategic node of RUVDS, allowing us to provide computing power to customers from the Urals and Siberia with minimal access delays.
- in Novosibirsk - another node, strategically important for the successful expansion of RUVDS to the east of Russia. We have already mentioned the previous four containment zones more than once, but we have not written about this one anywhere, even on our website. So let's give a little more information here.
The total area of the Kalininsky data center covers 300 sq. m; Raised floor area for equipment placement - 100 sq. m; There are rooms for clients to work. At the moment, there are 40 server racks in the data center and it is possible to place your own racks.
The total power of the data center is 0.2 MW, and the maximum power per rack is the classic 7 kW. The deployment scheme is 2N+1. The power supply system is made according to the first special category of reliability and includes: two independent city feeders supplying server and telecommunication racks, each of which is backed up by its own UPS; diesel power plant Genelec as an autonomous source of electricity with a capacity that can provide all the energy consumption of the center and a continuous operation time of at least a day; input-distributing device with ATS function for three inputs to provide the data center with guaranteed power supply.
To maintain the climatic conditions in the room, Liebert precision (precise control) air conditioning with 2N redundancy is installed, with the functions of automatically maintaining the required temperature and humidity.
Safety is ensured by an automatic fire alarm system and fire extinguishing equipment with temperature and smoke detectors included in the centralized-distributed monitoring system of the center premises. A gas fire extinguishing system is being designed. All data center facilities are monitored around the clock using a video surveillance system.
▍We launched the server into the stratosphere and opened the Stratonet project
On Cosmonautics Day, we dared to conduct an experiment to send a server to a height of 22,7 km aboard a stratospheric balloon. The server distributed the Internet, filmed and transmitted video and telemetry data to Earth. Habr readers could send text messages to the server through a form with , which were transmitted via the HTTP protocol through two independent satellite communication systems to the server under the stratospheric balloon, which transmitted this data back to Earth via a radio channel. All this was conceived not just for fun, but with a very ambitious goal: to start to provide access to the Internet through stratospheric balloons for people in remote settlements, on ships, on tourist and reconnaissance expeditions, on regular aircraft, as well as in areas of natural disasters in conditions of destroyed ground infrastructure.

Sounds like fantasy but . All virtual servers on this tariff were redeemed in less than a day, which entailed the purchase of new equipment by us, and subsequently, the tariff was limited: now it is available only on pre-order. Now we can be proud of a real alternative to web hosting!

This year we have become friends with Richard (Levelord) Gray - level designer of Duke Nukem, American McGee's Alice, Heavy Metal FAKK2, SiN, Serious Sam; author of the famous phrase "You're not supposed to be here". We talked about the beginning of Richard's career, about how game developers of those years were organized and about the atmosphere of work then, about teaching level design, about Easter eggs, about Russia (our hero is married to a Russian woman and lives in Moscow) ... and they also published a story level design of Duke Nukem with Levelord's unknown sketches.
