The Swiss company Flyability, which develops and produces inspection drones for inspecting industrial and construction sites, announced a new version of an unmanned aerial vehicle for conducting surveys and inspections in confined spaces called Elios 2.
Elios's first production drone relied on a grille to passively protect the propellers from collisions. The Elios 2 reimagines the design of passive mechanical protection, using seven sensors to stabilize flight without the use of GPS, which is essential when operating indoors.
βToday, more than 550 Elios unmanned aerial vehicles are used at more than 350 sites to inspect critical infrastructure in various industries, such as power generation, mining, oil and gas and chemical industries, and even to survey the radioactive zones of nuclear plants,β β said Patrick ThΓ©voz, CEO of Flyability.
