FreeBSD 12.1-RELEASE

The FreeBSD development team has released FreeBSD 12.1-RELEASE, the second release of the stable/12 branch.

Some of the innovations in the base system:

  • Imported BearSSL code.
  • The LLVM components (clang, llvm, lld, lldb and libc++) have been updated to version 8.0.1.
  • OpenSSL has been updated to version 1.1.1d.
  • The libomp library has been moved to base.
  • Added trim(8) command - forced cleanup of unused blocks on solid state drives.
  • The pipefail option has been added to sh(1) - it changes the behavior associated with receiving an exit code from the pipeline. Traditionally, Bourne Shell receives the exit code of the last process in the pipeline. Now, with the pipefail option set, the pipeline will return the exit result of the last process that exited with a non-zero code.

In ports/packages:

  • pkg(8) has been updated to version 1.12.0.
  • The GNOME environment has been updated to version 3.28.
  • The KDE environment has been updated to version 5.16.5 and the applications to version 19.08.1.

And much more…
