After
The events of the published fragment of the gameplay unfold in a village on the Anegawa River, where in August 1570 a battle took place between the allied forces of Oda Nobunaga and Ieyasu Tokugawa and the coalition forces of the Azai and Asakura clans.
In Nioh 2, the battle arena is ice-bound and covered in snow - this is the work of the samurai Makara Naotaki, who, contrary to his real-life historical prototype, turned into a yokai.
Location screenshots
During the Battle of Anegawa, the real Naotaka, along with his son Naomoto, were at the forefront, where they held back the forces of Nobunaga and Tokugawa to cover the retreat of the Asakura warriors.
Having lost his sword, Naotaka continued to fight with his bare hands, but in the end, along with his offspring, he was killed. The coalition forces were defeated, and Oda Nobunaga celebrated the victory.

The developers presented Naotaka as a one-armed ice demon with a nodachi (large Japanese sword) on his shoulder. A lost limb can be restored by the monster by transporting itself and the hero to the world of youkai.
As part of Nioh 2, Naotaka attacks Honda Tadakatsu, who appeared in the first part, the general of the Tokugawa army. The player character comes to the rescue of a warlord who is in hiding.

Together with Tadakatsu, on the side of Tokugawa in Nioh 2 is Hattori Hanzo, the head of the ninja clan from the province of Iga. This character is the father of Hattori Hanzo from the first part
