Finnish studio Housemarque, famous in the field of arcade shooters and left the genre due to its non-profitability, in 2020 marks 25 years. On this occasion, the developers told how things are going in the company and what it is doing now.

According to CEO Ilari Kuittinen, the team feels better than ever and employees have to periodically “pinch themselves to make sure that what is happening is real.”

Currently, there are almost 80 people in Housemarque - the Finnish team has never grown to such a size. Also in development new project The studio is being helped by a generous partner.

“We didn’t know if we’d ever get out of pre-production, but in the end we’ve been working on this game for three years and are at the full production stage. We look forward to sharing more details in the coming months,” said Kuittinen.

Housemarque describes the mysterious project as “the most ambitious and largest.” The game took over all the studio's efforts, which is why development online action game Stormdivers along with other endeavors had to be suspended.

Kuittinen is confident that the new game will “define the next stage of Housemarque’s evolution” and will “pleasantly surprise” fans of her work: “This year will be full of exciting surprises and we can’t wait to experience them with all of you!”

The last released Housemarque games date back to 2017, when they were released Nex Machine and Matterfall. Rated first on Metacritic exceeds 80 points, however, this did not bring success to the project - the arcade still did not sell well enough.
