Canada has banned the use of Chinese messaging app WeChat and Russian Kaspersky Lab antivirus software on government mobile devices. This is due to concerns about privacy and security risks. The statement was made by the Treasury Board of Canada Secretariat after Information Technology Canada determined that "the WeChat and Kaspersky suite of applications pose an unacceptable level of privacy and security risk" because the data collection methods used by these applications provide "significant access to device contents."
