As we reported earlier, the Chinese company Xiaomi is designing a dual-fold smartphone that transforms into a small tablet. Now it became known that the South Korean giant Samsung is considering a similar device.
Information about the new design of the flexible device Samsung appeared on the website of the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO). The LetsGoDigital resource has already published renderings of the gadget, created on the basis of patent documentation.
As you can see in the images, the Samsung device folds so that the two side sections of the flexible display are on the back of the device. As a result, the screen seems to encircle the smartphone.
Having opened the device, the user will have at his disposal a tablet with a very large touch panel. Obviously, modes can be implemented in which the owner will be able to open only one of the side sections - left or right.
A curious feature of the development of Samsung is the stiffener located in the central part of the gadget. It is designed to support a flexible screen when the smartphone is used in an open state, say, on a table.
Alas, there is no information about when the proposed design may be embodied in a commercial Samsung device.
