Ancient Chinese Strategy Romance of the Three Kingdoms XIV Coming to PC and PS4 in 2020

While Dynasty Warriors and the recent Total War: Three Kingdoms are among the most famous games set in China's semi-legendary Three Kingdoms era, the Romance of the Three Kingdoms series has been exploiting this theme longer than others in the gaming industry. Since 1985, these strategy games have been popular in Japan, although they have never gained as much fame in Western markets. Perhaps soon everything will change - Koei Tecmo introduced Romance of the Three Kingdoms XIV for PC and PS4.

It has already been announced that the project will be released in Western markets in early 2020. Many games in the series have never been released outside of Japan, or it happened much later, so Romance of the Three Kingdoms XIV may be able to break the trends that have developed over the years. According to the developers at Koei Tecmo, the action will still take place during the fall of the Han Dynasty, and players will fight to occupy as much territory as possible in a strategic struggle. The developers highlighted the fact that Romance of the Three Kingdoms XIV will bring together some of the best elements of the series, such as the simplified color system from the original game and the ruler system from the ninth and eleventh installments.

This system is designed to make sure that all the action takes place on only one map, and that each character is more individual. In addition, Koei Tecmo promises a significantly improved artificial intelligence system, thanks to which each ruler, even within the same faction, will behave differently. Perhaps these and other changes will allow Romance of the Three Kingdoms XIV to finally win the hearts of the Western public.

In the above first trailer for Romance of the Three Kingdoms XIV, the developers did not reveal anything other than the name of the project, and only reminded of the rich history of the series, showing various games and progress in the field of gameplay. Romance of the Three Kingdoms XIII available on Steam, however, the game received a rather low rating - only 45% of positive responses out of almost 4 thousand.
