Tails is an operating system that can be run on almost any computer from a USB stick or DVD. It aims to preserve your privacy and anonymity and helps you to do so.
This release fixes many vulnerabilities. You must update as soon as possible.
Auto update improvements
We've been working on important improvements to the auto-update feature, which until
still gives me headaches when using Tails.
- Until now, if your version of Tails was several months out of date, you
sometimes I had to do 2 or even more updates in a row.
Well, for example, to upgrade Tails 3.12 to Tails 3.16, you must first upgrade
up to Tails 3.14
Starting from version 4.2, you will be able to upgrade immediately to the latest version.
- Until now, you could only do a limited number of automatic updates,
after which you had to do much more complicated "manual" update.
Starting from 4.2, you will only need to update manually between major releases,
for example, to upgrade to Tails 5.0 in 2021.
- Automatic updates use less memory.
- The size of downloaded automatic updates has been slightly optimized.
