According to available data, vulnerabilities were discovered in the anti-tracking feature of the browser Intelligent Tracking Prevention, which appeared in the browser in 2017. It is used to protect Safari users from being tracked on the Internet. After the introduction of this feature, developers of other browsers began to actively work on creating similar tools that help increase the level of user privacy when browsing the web.

The report states that Google researchers have identified several types of attacks that can be carried out by attackers to spy on Safari users. The algorithms of the ITP function are launched on the user device, due to which it is possible to hide activity from advertising trackers while working on the Internet. Google researchers believe that the vulnerabilities in this feature could be used to obtain detailed information about user activity.

β€œWe have been working with industry companies for a long time to share information about potential vulnerabilities to protect our users. Our core information security research team has worked closely with Apple on this issue,” Google said in a statement.

According to reports, Google reported the problem to Apple in August last year, but did not fix it until December. Apple representatives do not disclose details regarding this issue, but confirm that the vulnerabilities have been fixed.
