Second test release of the Tizen 5.5 mobile platform

Published second test (milestone) release of the mobile platform Tizen 5.5. The release is aimed at introducing developers to the new capabilities of the platform. Code supplied under GPLv2, Apache 2.0 and BSD licenses. Assemblies formed for emulator, Raspberry Pi 3, odroid u3, odroid x u3, artik 710/530/533 boards and various mobile platforms based on armv7l and arm64 architectures.

The project is being developed under the auspices of the Linux Foundation, recently mainly by Samsung. The platform continues the development of the MeeGo and LiMO projects and is distinguished by providing the ability to use Web API and web technologies (HTML5/JavaScript/CSS) to create mobile applications. The graphical environment is built on the basis of the Wayland protocol and the developments of the Enlightenment project; Systemd is used to manage services.

Features Tizen 5.5 M2:

  • A high-level API has been added for image classification, identifying objects in photographs and facial recognition using deep machine learning methods based on neural networks. The TensorFlow Lite package is used to process the models. Models in Caffe and TensorFlow formats are supported. Added a set of GStreamer plugins NNStreamer 1.0;
  • Added support for multi-window environments and devices with multiple screens;
  • A backend has been added to the DALi subsystem (3D UI Toolkit) for using the Android platform rendering API;

  • Added support for the DPMS (Display Power Management Signaling) protocol to switch the screen to power-saving mode;
  • Added Sticker Framework to extract information from identification stickers;
  • Added distributed web engine castanets (Multi-Device Distributed Web Engine) based on Chromium, which allows you to distribute the processing of web content across several devices. Chromium-efl engine updated to release 69;
  • Added fast connection mode to a wireless network (DPP - Wi-Fi easy connect). Connman has been updated to release 1.37 with WPA3 support, and
    wpa_supplicant before release 2.8;

  • Added the Battery-Monitor framework to track resource consumption by applications and analyze their impact on energy consumption;
  • EFL (Enlightenment Foundation Library) libraries have been updated to version 1.23. Wayland has been updated to version 1.17. Added libwayland-egl library. Enlightenment Display Server has added support for softkeys.
