Release of XWayland 21.2.0, a component for running X11 applications in Wayland environments

XWayland 21.2.0 is available, a DDX component (Device-Dependent X) that runs the X.Org Server to run X11 applications in Wayland-based environments.

Major changes:

  • Added support for the DRM Lease protocol, which allows the X server to act as a Direct Rendering Manager (DRM) controller that provides DRM resources to clients. On the practical side, the protocol is used to form a stereo image with different buffers for the left and right eyes when displayed on virtual reality helmets.

  • Added framebuffer settings (fbconfig) to GLX to support sRGB color space (GL_FRAMEBUFFER_SRGB).
  • The dependencies include the libxcvt library.
  • The code was redesigned with the implementation of the Present extension, which provides the composite manager with the means to copy or process pixmaps of the redirected window, synchronize with the frame blanking pulse (vblank), and also handle PresentIdleNotify events that allow the client to judge the availability of pixmaps for further modifications (the ability to know in advance which pixmap will be used in the next frame).
  • Added the ability to process control gestures on the touchpad.
  • Added ClientDisconnectMode to the libxfixes library and the ability to define an optional delay for automatic shutdown after a client is disconnected.
