Wirev3.35

Quietly and imperceptibly, a few minutes ago, a minor release of Wire version 3.35 for Android took place.

Wire is a free cross-platform messenger with E2EE by default (that is, all chats are secret), being developed Wire Swiss GmbH and distributed under the GPLv3 (clients) and AGPLv3 (server).

At the moment, the messenger is centralized, but there are plans for subsequent federation (see blog post for upcoming BlackHat 2019 keynote) based on future IETF standards for Messaging Layer Security (MLS): architecture, protocol, federationdeveloped jointly with employees of Google, INRIA, Mozilla, Twitter, Cisco, Facebook and the University of Oxford.

Changes:

  • New implementation for sending and receiving files, images etc.
  • Group size limit increased to 500 users.
  • Improved cross-platform compatibility with changes to web socket handling.

The release also contains many minor fixes.
