IT salaries in the second half of 2019: according to the Habr Career calculator

Our IT salary report for the second half of 2019 is based on data from the Habr Careers salary calculator, in which more than 7000 salaries were collected during this period.

In the report, we will look at current salaries for the main IT specializations, as well as their dynamics over the past six months, both in the whole country and separately in Moscow, St. Petersburg and other cities. As usual, let's study the specializations of software developers in more detail: let's look at their salaries in the context of programming languages, cities and companies.

The data presented in this report, as well as any others, can be obtained independently by anyone using salary calculator Habr Careers. If you like the information we get from the calculator and if you want to contribute to a more transparent IT labor market, you are welcome to share your current salary, which we will use in our next annual report.

Salary service is running on Habr Career at the end of 2017 in order to regularly monitor salaries in the IT industry. Salaries are left by the specialists themselves, we collect them and provide them to everyone in the public domain in an aggregated and anonymous form.

How to read report charts

IT salaries in the second half of 2019: according to the Habr Career calculator

All salaries are indicated in rubles. These are salaries received on hand, minus all taxes. Dots indicate specific salaries. The group of points for each sample is visualized using a "box with whiskers". The central vertical line shows the median salary (half of the salaries are below and half are above this point, can be considered as an average salary), the boundaries of the box are the 25th and 75th percentiles (they divide the lower and upper half of the salaries in half again, as a result, half of all salaries lie between them). The whiskers of the box are the 10th and 90th percentiles (we can conditionally consider them the minimum and maximum salaries). All diagrams of this type in this article are clickable.

The median salary in the IT industry is now 100 rubles: in Moscow - 000 rubles, in St. Petersburg - 140 rubles, in other regions - 000 rubles.
Compared to the first half of 2019, in the second half of 3, salaries in Moscow increased by 136% (from 000 rubles to 140 rubles), in St. Petersburg - by 000% (from 6 rubles to 110), in other regions the increase in median wages was 000% (from 117 rubles to 000 rubles). At the same time, on average, salaries throughout the industry remained unchanged - 6 rubles, but the 75th percentile increased: from 000 rubles to 80 rubles.

Please note that in this study, we first encountered the following statistical "paradox". When looking at a large sample, we see the invariance of the median compared to its previous indicator. However, when splitting this sample into several narrower ones, we see an increase in the median in each of them separately. And it turns out that there is growth in each individual area, but in the aggregate of these areas there is no growth. We will see this again in the future.
