Ubisoft: Snowdrop Engine Ready for Next-Gen Consoles

The latest Snowdrop Engine game is Tom Clancy's The Division 2, but the engine will also be used in James Cameron's Avatar and Blue Byte's The Settlers. Ubisoft Massive production manager Ola Holmdahl told the conference that the engine has been tested for next-gen hardware. "We've done some thorough benchmarking and we're pretty confident it's up to date when it comes to future-ready game engines," he said. When asked if that means it's already ready for next-gen consoles like the PlayStation 5, Holmdahl replied, "Yes."

According to the manager, the development of the Snowdrop Engine began almost immediately after the Swedish studio was acquired by Ubisoft in 2008. It is flexible enough to be used in games of various genres: in addition to the Tom Clancy's The Division dilogy, South Park: The Fractured but Whole, Mario + Rabbids Kingdom Battle and Starlink: Battle for Atlas are developed on it.
