DietPi 10.6 has been released, a distribution for single-board PCs based on ARM and RISC-V architectures, such as Raspberry Pi, Orange Pi, NanoPi, Rock64, Rock Pi, Quartz64, Pine64, Asus Tinker, Odroid, and VisionFive 2. The distribution is built on a package base Debian and is available in builds for over 50 boards. DietPi can also be used to create compact environments for virtual machines and regular x86_64-based PCs. Board-specific builds are smaller in size (averaging 150 MB compressed) compared to Raspberry Pi OS and Armbian. The tools for building and maintaining the distribution are licensed under the GPLv2.
The project is optimized for minimal resource consumption and develops several of its own utilities: interface for installing DietPi-Software applications, DietPi-Config configurator, DietPi-Backup backup system, DietPi-Ramlog temporary logging mechanism (rsyslog is also supported), interface for setting execution priorities DietPi-Services processes and the DietPi-Update update delivery system. The utilities provide a console-based user interface with whiptail-based menus and dialogs. The mode of full automation of the installation is supported, which allows installation on boards without user intervention.
Among the changes:
- Added support for Orange Pi 4 Pro and Orange Pi Zero 3W boards based on the Allwinner A733 SoC. The provided builds use the kernel Linux 6.6 and U-Boot from Xunlong.
- Added support for Odroid M1, M1S and M2 boards based on Rockchip RK3568, RK3566 and RK3588 SoCs.
- A driver for ASUS USB keyboards has been added for motherboards based on Allwinner, Amlogic, and Rockchip chips.
- The login information now displays used disk space information for all mounted devices, as well as systemd service failures and Fail2Ban lockouts for all network interfaces.
- For RISC-V boards, DietPi-Software has implemented the ability to deploy a node for the IPFS network.
