OpenAPV 0.3 library with a reference implementation of the APV video codec has been published.

OpenAPV 0.3 has been released. It provides a reference implementation of the APV (Advanced Professional Video) video codec, designed for professional video recording and processing without noticeable loss of quality. The library code is written in C and distributed under the BSD license. The project is being developed by the Academy Software Foundation, an organization created to promote the use of open source software in filmmaking.

The APV format provides the high throughput and low complexity of intraframe encoding required by editing codecs (including Apple ProRes and Avid DNxHD), as well as no visible quality degradation during re-encoding. It supports 2K, 4K, and 8K resolutions, the HDR10/10+ standard for using high dynamic range in video, frame tiling for parallel encoding/decoding, various color sampling formats, multi-view video, and the addition of metadata (depth, transparency, and preview data). To speed up workflows, the OpenAPV library supports multi-threaded encoding and decoding, and utilizes optimizations using the extended NEON (ARM) and SSE/AVX (x86) instruction sets.

The new version adds support for encoding and decoding APV RAW, which captures the state of data from the camera sensor without processing or converting video to the YUV color space. APV RAW losslessly compresses the unconverted 16-bit, 4-channel linear pixel stream, enabling the subsequent use of complex color correction algorithms and visual effects. New profiles are available for distinguishing between standard APV and APV RAW.
