There will be no Russian dubbing on Apple TV + yet - only subtitles

The Kommersant publication, citing its sources, reported that the Apple TV+ video streaming service, as could be expected based on promotional materials, will not have Russian dubbing. Russian subscribers of the service, which will be launched on November 1, will only be able to count on localization in the form of subtitles. Apple itself has not yet specified this issue, but all trailers on the Russian language page of the service available in English with Russian subtitles.

Representatives of Russian rival video services believe that the lack of dubbing or even voice-over translation means that Apple does not yet count on a wide audience in Russia. And the competitive advantages include the binding of Apple TV+ to Apple devices (however, subscribers through the service’s website will be able to watch all materials on any device with a browser).

Let us remind you: the Apple TV+ service will be launched immediately in more than a hundred countries and will offer completely original content in the form of TV series, films and cartoons without advertising. The subscription price per month will be 199 rubles, and a 7-day free period and family access to materials for six users are provided. When you purchase a new iPhone, iPad, iPod touch, Mac, or Apple TV, you receive a free one-year subscription to Apple TV+.

Currently, Russian online cinemas such as ivi, tvzavr, Premier, Amediateka, Okko or Megogo, as a rule, purchase films with dubbing or order Russian dubbing themselves when purchasing popular shows from rights holders. In the latter case, as Kommersant reports, dubbing a popular series that airs in Russia simultaneously with the United States can cost about €300 per minute. And, for example, two-voice voiceover from English costs in Russia from 200–300 rubles per minute, full dubbing costs 890–1300 rubles per minute, and creating subtitles costs 100–200 rubles per minute.
