The animated film Dragon Quest: Your Story was announced in February 2019. Its story is based on the Japanese RPG Dragon Quest V: Hand of the Heavenly Bride. The first trailer for the film was recently released.
Dragon Quest's "father" Yuji Horii is overseeing the making of the film, and Koichi Sugiyama, the franchise's traditional composer, is writing the music for the film. Takashi Yamazaki, best known for the anime series Parasite, is serving as the director of Dragon Quest: Your Story. The trailer features the adaptation's characters, including the hero, Bianca, Flora, and Saber. It is known that Dragon Quest series artist Akira Toriyama is not involved in the production of the film.
Dragon Quest V: Hand of the Heavenly Bride often makes lists of the best JRPGs of all time. USgamer editor Nadia Oxford wrote in one of these tops that "rarely does a silent hero have the same impact as Abel, but also rarely does an RPG make the main character grow, suffer, and then blossom and triumph as successfully like Dragon Quest 5." In the animated film, however, the protagonist still has a voice.
Dragon Quest: Your Story will premiere on August 2 in Japan.
