Phosh 0.56, a mobile desktop environment based on GNOME technologies and the GTK library, has been released. Initially developed by Purism as a GNOME Shell alternative for the Librem 5 smartphone, the environment has since become an unofficial GNOME project and is used in postmarketOS, Mobian, ALT Mobile, Droidian, some firmware versions for Pine64 devices, and the Fedora edition for smartphones. Phosh uses the Phoc composite server running on Wayland and its own on-screen keyboard. The project's work is licensed under the GPLv3+ license. 
Among the changes:
- A plugin with an indicator displaying a CPU load graph has been added to the top panel. This is the first working plugin to use the API for integrating plugins into the top panel.
- An option has been added to hide application icons from the application grid without uninstalling them. Applications are hidden via a context menu displayed by long-pressing the icon, and can be restored via the hidden application list interface, accessible from the same context menu. Hiding can be useful on systems without the GNOME Software application manager, such as atomically updated postmarketOS Duranium and BengalOS distributions (Phosh nightly build testing images) with a single system environment.
- A new panel has been added to the configurator for managing updates for distributions that come with a monolithic, atomically updated system environment. The system update backend is based on systemd-sysupdate.
- A service for checking for system updates has been added to phosh-session-services.
- The AdwSidebar widget has been used to redesign the sidebar in the configurator. Minor settings (conf-tweaks) have been moved to a separate area of the sidebar.
- The About section now includes information about the system image version to ensure the system is up to date in atomically updated distributions.
- Added support for the NexDock 2025 docking station to turn your smartphone into a laptop.
- An option has been added to the settings to enable a file synchronization plugin based on the Syncthing P2P system.
- Added the ability to rotate the system lock screen content on tablets. The lock screen style has been modernized.
- In composite server Phoc cleaned up its internal components and migrated to the wlroots 0.20.1 library release. The xdg-toplevel-tag-v1 Wayland protocol was implemented for Wayland clients to attach tags to composited top-level surfaces. server can be used to restore the position, size and properties of windows after a restart, as well as to define special rules for individual types of windows.
- The Stevia on-screen keyboard now allows you to enable specific keyboard layouts by default per application (for example, for Emacs, you can enable a terminal-optimized layout by default). Cursor control buttons have been added to the quick entry toolbar. The Wayland ext-data-control-v1 protocol is used to control clipboard pasting.
- In phosh-first-boot and libpms, the on-screen keyboard now automatically adds keyboard layouts that match the set locale.
