Release youtube-dl 2021.12.17

After six months of development, the release of the youtube-dl 2021.12.17 utility has been published, which provides a command line interface for downloading sound and video from YouTube and many other sites and online services, including VK, YandexVideo, RUTV, Rutube, PeerTube, Vimeo, Instagram, Twitter and Steam. The project code is written in Python and distributed in the form of the public domain.

Changes include:

  • Templates for extracting signatures from YouTube pages have been updated, which allowed us to solve problems that arose after changing the YouTube JavaScript code. Improved reliability of get_video_info processing calls and added a get_video_info request bypass, which solved problems with downloading videos with age restrictions set. Updated the list of alternative servers for accessing YouTube using the Invidious web frontend.
  • On errors, the output of debug data returned by the FFmpeg package is provided.
  • Improved support for extracting content from PeerTube servers.
  • For the Pornhub site, the ability to extract videos from the pornhubthbh7ap3u.onion server in the anonymous Tor network is provided, access restrictions are determined depending on the geographic location of the user, and problems with passing the highest quality video are solved.
  • Resolved issues when fetching content from appleconnect, periscope, bilibili, umg.de, egghead, tvthek and nrk services.
  • Stopped support for the liveleak service.
