Debian offers fnt font manager

The Debian testing package base, on the basis of which the Debian 12 “Bookworm” release will be formed, has received the fnt package with the implementation of a font manager that solves the problem of installing additional fonts and keeping existing fonts up to date. In addition to Linux, the program can also be used on FreeBSD (a port has recently been added) and macOS. The code is written in Shell and distributed under the MIT license.

The fnt utility is marketed as the font counterpart of apt and supports a similar set of commands for installing, updating, and searching. Additionally, a command is proposed for a visual preview of fonts in the console using ascii graphics. For a better viewing of the proposed fonts in the browser, a web service has been prepared. The utility allows you to install more recent fonts present in the Debian Sid repository, as well as external fonts from the Google Web Fonts collection. In total, about 2000 fonts are offered for installation (480 from Debian sid and 1420 from Google Web Fonts).
